W Concept

May 22, 2017

One of my favorite shows during New York Fashion Week is Concept Korea.  I’ve written about this show before, but each season Korea sends the brightest emerging designers to showcase their collections as one concept.  The audience watches as two or three runway shows are presented in succession, often times with extremely varied themes.  This past season, Greedilous gave us structured separates, multiple layers and fur accents, while Kimmy J. showed urban streetwear in neon colors.  The common theme?  When it comes to fashion, the Koreans know what’s up.  Each season the show is so nuanced and innovative, I always leave feeling crazy inspired.

Enter my secret weapon when it comes to finding one of a kind garments from these emerging designers – W Concept.  If you haven’t heard of it, W Concept is basically the online shopping platform for movements like Concept Korea.  Packed full of new and independent designers from Asia and beyond, most pieces are made to order or available only in small quantities, ensuring that you find clothes not every other person will have.  A fashion girl’s paradise.

While the site interface has its kinks – slow to load, inefficient search function and you can only view 36 items at a time – what it lacks in tech, it makes up for in creative inventory.  These leather mules immediately caught my eye and are perfect for spring and summer.  The red and black block heel is a tad Lego-esque, which I find so quirky and cool.  The best part?  The pearl + gold hardware on the front is interchangeable!  The shoes came with a velvet pouch of different pieces so you can mix and match the hardware as you see fit – just like a pair of earrings!

Don’t even get me started on this trench coat.  Depending on which way it hits the light, it appears green or khaki making it really versatile.  The fabric has a gorgeous sheen to it and the oversized silhouette is so modern and cool.  I love the duster length and the fact that it has two side slits you can leave buttoned or unbuttoned.

If you’ve been curious about the one earring trend, W Concept is definitely the place to go.  My gold crinkle earring comes in a shiny or matte finish and feels so avant garde yet it’s completely wearable.  I paired mine with a simple gold stud in my right ear.

You can shop my look below.  Head over to W Concept if you’re in the market for some incredibly unique pieces from amazing indie designers.

Star Studded

May 15, 2017

Sunset & Spring jacket // Zara tank (similar here and here) // AMO denim //
Christian Louboutin heels (similar under $100 here, here and here)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  If I had to pick one go-to outfit, it’d be sturdy denim, great heels and a leather jacket.  My current leather jacket situation is a bit out of control (is that really such a thing though?) so in an effort to keep costs low and variety high, I scooped up this faux number for under $150.  The silver stars give it some edge and veer into Saint Laurent territory at a fraction of the cost.  To really feel like a badass, I paired it with my spikiest heels and distressed charcoal denim for a cool monochromatic look.

The topic of having a uniform has been on my mind a lot lately.  I think the most successful bloggers and style icons are the ones that stick to a pattern that people can easily identify.  That said, one of my least favorite questions is when people ask me to describe my style.  My default response is “indiscernible”.  While I get why people ask, I hate classifying myself into one tiny box when the way I dress is so greatly influenced by my mood. One day I might feel incredibly girly, the next like a kooky, glam version of The Joker.  Volatile doesn’t begin to cover it.

So I’d like to ask you, dear readers.  Do you prefer following someone whose style you can easily predict, or do you like being surprised by variety?

Candy Colored

May 8, 2017

Torn by Ronny Kobo top (similar here) // Levi’s wedgie jeans // Sol Sana sandals (similar here)
DIFF sunglasses (c/o) // Glossier lipstick in Zip

With summer around the corner, I’ve been in a bit of a sunglasses kick.  My current collection has been feeling a bit boring, so when DIFF eyewear reached out about collaborating, I knew it was meant to be.  Similar to my other favorite ethical fashion companies The Arrivals and Everlane, DIFF’s mission is to make high quality, affordable eyewear while also giving back through a charitable initiative.  For every pair of sunglasses sold, they donate a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need.  While it may seem easy to obtain eyeglasses in the US, the rest of the world isn’t so lucky.  Over 1 billion people in the world need eyeglasses but do not have access to them!

During our last sunny weekend we headed downtown for brunch and some exploring.  I paired my candy colored Levi’s with DIFF’s The Dime.  The rounded Audrey shape is so flattering and I love that the tortoise shell goes with everything while the yellow mirrored lenses give them a pop.  At only $60 for polarized lenses, they are such a great deal.  Head over to my Instagram for a coupon code to receive 25% off your first pair!

If you’ve been in the market for a new pair of jeans under $100, check out Levi’s wedgie style.  High waisted with a tapered leg, they are super flattering and come in some amazing washes.  I’m definitely keeping my eye on this pair but also love these if you’re looking to add some color into your wardrobe.  I took my normal size, but if you’d like to skip the break in period, size up one size.

Stargazing Brunch at Vocabulary

May 1, 2017

Lace romper, earrings and clutch from Vocabulary Boutique // Banana Republic sandals

Happy May Day!  Each spring, Vocabulary Boutique hosts a fabulous brunch.  This year my girl Cecelia has been dreaming big dreams and channeled that into a star gazing theme.  Join us for an afternoon of delicious bites, fun cocktails and of course great shopping discounts.

I popped in over the weekend and there are so many cute things in stock.  This lace romper immediately transported me into a Dolce & Gabbana ad.  I can just picture my husband waiting for me on a Vespa ready to cruise the Italian countryside.  It can be dressed up with a leather clutch and black & gold pom pom earrings or worn more casually with flats and a big straw handbag.

San Diego ladies, we hope you’ll join us this Sunday!

There is no cost to attend but we do ask that you RSVP so we can get an idea on headcount.  The first 30 people to RSVP will receive a celestial gift!  Details below.

Sunday, May 7th
11:00am – 1:00pm
414 W. Cedar St.
San Diego, CA 92101
RSVP Here

See you there!

Sandal season

April 24, 2017

We had glorious weather in Southern California this past weekend – the beaches were packed and I spent the majority of my time outside.  Whenever the weather starts to turn warm, it’s no surprise I reach for easy, comfortable pieces.  This wide leg jumpsuit looks like a maxi dress, but has all the comfort of wearing pants.  It was the perfect choice – and oh-so-fun – for walking around downtown after a quick stop at one of my favorite cafes.

I recently read an article about the items of clothing you no longer buy when you hit your 30’s.  Stilettos topped the list and I have to say I completely follow suit.  These days I’m all about flats or low block heels.  For summer, I was looking for a good pair of leather sandals and came across designer Katharine Page.  Using sustainable manufacturing and ethical business practices – key elements for me when choosing clothing and accessories – her sandals are inspired by equestrian sport.  To play up this detail, I paired them with a horsebit leather belt to cinch the waist and create a nice contrast to the voluminous jumpsuit.  The criss-cross linen straps look great with dressier and casual outfits alike, and the padded insole is super comfortable.  They’ll definitely be a great staple for the fun weekend trips I have planned this summer!
