Skull + Sequins

June 26, 2017

W Concept  skirt // Zara men’s t-shirt // Stuart Weitzman heels // Quay sunglasses

Anytime I can infuse a bit of an edge into my overall look, I’m game, so when this sequins skirt from my favorite underground shopping site went on sale, you know I didn’t hesitate.  The two-toned color palette and side slits lend more editorial than NYE party, which I wholeheartedly endorse.  You better believe I’ll be wearing it to summer parties and even during the daytime with silver brogues and an oversized light sweater (bonus points for being able to easily transition to fall!).

I get a lot of questions about these strappy sandals and wanted to pass on a more affordable version.  While I highly recommend the real deal for their superior construction and soft, comfortable leather, this pair is a steal at under $80.

With it being summer, my sunglasses game is on heavy rotation.  These babies are a beautiful $50 alternative to the super popular Audrey Celine frames.  The oversized cat eye is so flattering on any face shape and the matte black color is a nice alternative to the shiny finish we’re used to seeing on frames.

Finally, one of my favorite things to do while shopping is to take a cruise through the men’s section.  It’s a great way to infuse some inspiration and variety into your wardrobe especially when you feel like you’ve seen the same things online and at the mall over and over again.  This tee was part of the men’s section at Zara, and I was immediately drawn to it’s Alexander McQueen reminiscent skull.  When I touched the sequins and found they changed colors, I was immediately sold.  I love the versatility and how it appears to have been made for this skirt.

How do you incorporate edgy pieces into your wardrobe?

W Concept

May 22, 2017

One of my favorite shows during New York Fashion Week is Concept Korea.  I’ve written about this show before, but each season Korea sends the brightest emerging designers to showcase their collections as one concept.  The audience watches as two or three runway shows are presented in succession, often times with extremely varied themes.  This past season, Greedilous gave us structured separates, multiple layers and fur accents, while Kimmy J. showed urban streetwear in neon colors.  The common theme?  When it comes to fashion, the Koreans know what’s up.  Each season the show is so nuanced and innovative, I always leave feeling crazy inspired.

Enter my secret weapon when it comes to finding one of a kind garments from these emerging designers – W Concept.  If you haven’t heard of it, W Concept is basically the online shopping platform for movements like Concept Korea.  Packed full of new and independent designers from Asia and beyond, most pieces are made to order or available only in small quantities, ensuring that you find clothes not every other person will have.  A fashion girl’s paradise.

While the site interface has its kinks – slow to load, inefficient search function and you can only view 36 items at a time – what it lacks in tech, it makes up for in creative inventory.  These leather mules immediately caught my eye and are perfect for spring and summer.  The red and black block heel is a tad Lego-esque, which I find so quirky and cool.  The best part?  The pearl + gold hardware on the front is interchangeable!  The shoes came with a velvet pouch of different pieces so you can mix and match the hardware as you see fit – just like a pair of earrings!

Don’t even get me started on this trench coat.  Depending on which way it hits the light, it appears green or khaki making it really versatile.  The fabric has a gorgeous sheen to it and the oversized silhouette is so modern and cool.  I love the duster length and the fact that it has two side slits you can leave buttoned or unbuttoned.

If you’ve been curious about the one earring trend, W Concept is definitely the place to go.  My gold crinkle earring comes in a shiny or matte finish and feels so avant garde yet it’s completely wearable.  I paired mine with a simple gold stud in my right ear.

You can shop my look below.  Head over to W Concept if you’re in the market for some incredibly unique pieces from amazing indie designers.
