DIY Fringed Jeans

March 17, 2016

Sandro5 Sandro7 Sandro4 Sandro9 Sandro8 Sandro2 I hang out in my closet a lot. It’s my sanctuary, place of reflection and the one room in the house that I feel truly “get’s me”. Sometimes when I’m in my closet and feeling a lack of inspiration I’ll either begin a Goodwill purge, or start to “modify” things. This past weekend it was the latter. I’ve been interested in the extreme fringed look lately so I took a pair of scissors and kind of attacked my denim collection. For what took all of 5 minutes, I’m pretty pleased with the result. Paired with some creepy crawlies and one of the last opportunities I have to rock a long coat, I’m totally set for transitional dressing.

To get the fringed look yourself, follow these steps.

1. Begin with a pair of skinny jeans.  Tapered ankles are a must.
2. Cut them horizontally to a cropped length just below the ankle bone.
3. Cut 1/4 inch strips vertically about 4-5 inches up the leg.
4. Use a seam ripper or sandpaper to “buff” the fringed pieces and rough them up a little.
5. Put jeans in the washing machine and then dry for 40 minutes.  Something I would normally never condone.

Voila!

Volume

Ellery4a Ellery3 Ellery11 Ellery5 Ellery6 Ellery7 Ellery8 Ellery9 Ellery10 Ellery12 Ellery13 Ellery2 I’ll be straight. Most people have a really hard time with this outfit, especially the top. Of course, it happens to be one of my favorites. Voluminous and abstract, most look at it and want to edit. But I look at it and see perfection. It got me thinking about perspective when it comes to creativity. We’re moving faster every day. Flash judgements are more abundant than ever. Next time I come across something that doesn’t initially speak to me, I’m going to pause and study. Things aren’t always as they seem.

With Love

February 23, 2016

AMOJane4 AMOJane3 AMOJane1 AMOJane7 AMOJane5 AMOJane8 AMOJane2 AMOJane6 AMOJane9 A full blown love affair with denim is possible. Trust me, I know. After discovering AMO Denim over a year ago at Lola Boutique, I haven’t been able to stop. The dealer to my fix, I jumped when they got their cropped flares, the Jane, in stock. A throwback to 70’s silhouettes, they look amazing with an ankle boot, understated white tennis shoes or loafers. You can absolutely play with proportions with these jeans, going for a cropped leather jacket or a long trench or cardigan. After returning from New York Fashion Week, I can confirm – these jeans are here to stay.

Care to try some for yourself?
Lola Boutique is offering 20% off site-wide with code INSPADES20. Now go and get some love.

M is for Mugler

February 8, 2016

Mugler1 Mugler3 Mugler2 Mugler14 MuglerBacka Mugler6 Mugler7 Mugler4 Mugler8 Mugler9 Mugler10 Mugler11 Mugler13 Mugler12 Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this insane Mugler dress in Soho during a break between NYFW shows. A diehard fan of the 80s and Mugler’s extreme aesthetic, I nearly fainted. Massive shoulder pads, a nipped waist and a gold geometric belt screamed the decade I will forever hold dear. Of course I snatched it up immediately.

Shooting a dress like this needs an extra special touch. It can veer Dallas and Dynasty, hence the voluminous hair, or transport you back to the Havana during it’s prime. I love all of the emotion it conjures. It’s severely strong and theatrical, so you can bet I felt like conquering the world in it. Classic Mugler. Gets me every time.

Monochrome

February 1, 2016

BC4 BC8 BC3 BC9 BC1 BC2 BC7 BC5 BC10 Iris Apfel would highly disagree, but I find all black outfits rather intoxicating. This look is downright monastic, in color palette and silhouette, but I love the way it drapes. Caught in the midst of a glorious sunset, it’s an ensemble meant for movement. Thankfully these Pierre Hardy boots ensure a good strut. Aptly named the Marfa, they’re boots for a rouge cowboy. Time for my ride into the sunset.
