Your Top 5 Favorites – June 2019

July 17, 2019

You guys certainly had dresses on the brain in June!

Three of your Top 5 Favorites from June 2019 were summer dresses.

First up…

Rhode Resort Ella Dress cactus print

1) Summer dress

This flirty mini dress was hands down your favorite in June.  I love the fact that it truly flatters all body types and comes in a myriad of colors and patterns.

The braided belt gives definition to the waistline and the cotton fabric keeps it comfortable.  With a longer hem in the back, you don’t have to worry about it being too short.  Plus, the skirt is super fun to twirl in.

Wear it with sneakers for a casual chic look, or heeled sandals in a fun color to amp it up.

Isabel Marant Jaeryn Buckle Sandals

2) Sandals

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I do a Sunday Series of noteworthy products.  These black sandals were the first time a product from the video series made the list, and for good reason.

They are suuuuper comfortable and have a bit of an edge to your basic black sandal.  Both the heel strap and the ankle strap are adjustable.  Currently 60% off, you have to pounce on this deal if your size is left.

If you’re looking for an alternate version, try these.  Also featured on the blog here.

Joie Galani Floral Dress

3) Floral dress

I tried this dress on back in April and didn’t buy it until a recent vacation to Maui.  I’m so glad I got it and even more glad I waited.  It’s 50% off and available in sizes XXS – XL.

It’s 100% cotton and double lined so the quality is fabulous and comfortable.  I love the fabric buttons on the neckline and the billowy sleeves.

White eyelet dress

4) White eyelet dress

You guys responded so well to my first “Save vs. Splurge” series post (stay tuned for a new one soon!) that I wasn’t surprised it made your top 5 favorites in June.

A white eyelet dress is a summer staple, and the wrap closure makes this one so easy to wear and super flattering.  It’s almost sold out, but I linked similar options – including the navy version – below.

Linen blazer

5) Linen blazer

Last but not least, this linen blazer struck your fancy in June.

I love how lightweight it is – the perfect summer layering piece.  It comes in 3 colors and a very similar version offers it in 5 different colors.  I just may have to pick up another.

What I Bought in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019

July 12, 2019

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here.  While this normally isn’t my sale (I’m a Designer sale season girl), I do shop this sale to stock up on amazing basics.  I perused every single item up for grabs in the Women’s section and below is what I bought.  When these pieces get delivered, I will do a try-on session and let you know what I keep and what I return.

Jeans

This is definitely the time to buy designer jeans.  While the Anniversary Sale tends to put on-trend denim up for sale, I stick to the basics.  I’m not interested in step hems, super distressing or silhouettes that are “of the moment”.  I want pieces that will last me years and these two pairs do just that.

The black pair is a wardrobe must for their sleek, no distressing design.  They go with everything.  The blue pair is your tried and true, comfortable pair that can be worn while running errands, traveling or at night when you want to be more polished.  I adore the wash.

Tops & Dresses

I’ll be honest when I say I took a chance on this camisole.  I bought it in white and black, and the fabric will likely not be to my liking, but maybe I’ll be surprised.  I’ll give you my honest review when I pick it up this weekend.

This dress has amazing reviews and I love that it’s long sleeved and can be paired with OTK or ankle boots.  Looks like a great fall staple to me.  This top is super cute and comes in three colors.  I will probably get the black one too if I like the yellow.  Stay tuned for how I style it.

Sweaters

I always invest in the Nordstrom Signature line of sweaters during this sale.  This funnel neck cashmere one has my name all over it.  Such an insane deal that will last a lifetime.  Total no brainer for me.  I love the fitted shape of this striped one (bonus points that it comes in 7 colors) and will tuck it into skirts and high-waisted pants.  The camel sweater will likely disappoint me due to the quality, but I’m thinking it will be great to run around with my daughter.  Because let’s face it, with her it will easily get covered with baby food – hah!

Loungewear

I plan to wear these joggers as pajama pants.  Bonus points that they can also be worn outside the house.  This bra is super comfy with no underwire (but still gives great support).

Both pairs of undies are absolute wardrobe musts.  When I wear short dresses like this one and don’t want to wear a thong, these nude undies provide coverage but won’t show through.  I own them both in multiple colors and due to their normally higher price, this is the time to stock up.

Home & Beauty

I’ve written about these pillowcases before and you can’t beat this deal.  You save $51.  Add to cart!

These makeup sponges are all I use.  Since they need to be replaced about every 6 months, this is the perfect time to save money.  Normally two of them plus a carrying case would be $54, but you get them for $35.

90’s Inspired Floral Sun Dress

July 2, 2019

I love a good sun dress moment especially when it’s a throwback.  I picked up this 90’s inspired floral sun dress from Vocabulary boutique.  If that sounds familiar, well, it should.  I’ve been shopping at Vocabulary since almost the start of In Spades.  Over the years I’ve had the great pleasure to become close friends with its owner, Cecelia.

Cecelia is one of those ‘light up the room’ people with boundless energy and a heart the size of Texas (even though she’s from Michigan). Some of my favorite Vocabulary moments can be found here, here and here.

Retail is a tough business.  Cecelia recently asked for ways her tribe could help, and I’m sharing it with you here.  #shoplocal

If you are in the San Diego area, please pop into Vocabulary.  Located in Little Italy, they’ll serve you wine, listen to your styling needs and help you walk away with something that makes you feel amazing.  If you’re not local, they ship!  DM them on Instagram or call the store to shop through a styling associate.

This dress did just that for me.  I love that it can be edgy and sweet at the same time.  Paired with another local favorite – Dear Survivor earrings – and a platform tennis shoes, it’s the perfect casual summertime look

It would also look amazing with Chuck Taylors and a jean jacket, or dressed up with platform heels, a high pony and a straw clutch.

The 4th of July is two days away!  I’ve got my outfit.  How about you?

Summer Wardrobe Staple: The Linen Blazer

June 27, 2019

If you follow my Insta Stories, you know I recently filmed an amazing new digital TV project about fashion bloggers.  In one of the episodes, we discussed denim.  My favorite topic!

No matter the season, “jeans and a tee” continue to be my go-to uniform.  Today I wanted to share those extra pieces that take jeans and a tee to the next level.

For summer, I am loving this linen blazer.  It instantly pulls a look together making you look super polished and chic.  It currently comes in 3 colors and I know more are planned down the road.  I’m also loving this version which comes in 5 colors and is currently 50% off.

This blazer is perfect for those moments when the A/C is blasting and you need an extra layer.  It’s also a great option for all my corporate ladies that need a fun option that can be both formal and casual.

Platforms have been making comeback for a few seasons now, so when I saw this pair I had to have them.  They come in gold, black and tan suede and are currently 40% off.  The heel height is flattering without being too high or uncomfortable.

Finally, a quick note about my mesh fisherman’s bag and porcelain bracelet.  Both were freebies (the best freebies I’ve probably every gotten TBH).  The bag came with this necklace and the bracelet is actually a perfume diffuser!  You add a couple drops of your favorite fragrance to it and it lasts for up to a week.  I love that it’s both stylish and perfume on the go.  Yes to dual purpose fashion!

The Summer Dress That Looks Good on Everyone

June 13, 2019

Rhode Resort Ella Dress Rhode Resort Ella Dress Rhode Resort Ella DressRhode Resort Ella Dress Rhode Resort Ella Dress Rhode Resort Ella Dress Rhode Resort Ella Dress Rhode Resort Dress (similar here) // Boyy bag (similar here) // Amelie Pichard mules (similar here)
Celine sunglasses // Kjaer Weis lip tint in Lover’s Choice

With only one more week until the official start of summer, I wanted to share a dress that I’ll be reaching for again and again in the coming months.

It’s flirty, it’s twirly, it’s cotton, it’s mini.  Basically the perfect summer staple.  You’ve seen a version of this dress before – it was one of your Top 5 Favorites in May.

Rhode Resort is a brand I discovered more than a year ago and I immediately fell hard.  Their specialty is resort wear in vibrant prints and colors.  I love that they stick to a formula – they basically do the same 5 dresses and mix up the fabric.

The Ella dress is my absolute favorite.  The proportions are spot on; 3/4 length sleeves with a mini skirt.  The fabric is breathable and comfortable – hello cotton.  And the fit couldn’t be easier.  It’s basically a tunic with a voluminous skirt.  The fact that you can cinch the waist according to your shape makes this style look good on everyone. Plus, the back is slightly longer than the front, so you don’t have to worry about it being too mini.

I dressed mine up with a statement bag and patent leather mules in a pop color, but it looks just as fabulous worn casually.  I’ve paired it with espadrille sneakers and flat leather sandals.  It would also look amazing with a western inspired bootie.

I’ve linked some of my favorite prints and colors below (majority are on sale), along with some other styles from the brand.  One of my fave retailers is having an additional 25% off the sale.  Get ’em while they’re hot!
