New Year, New Goals

January 13, 2020

Hello, 2020.

Ahhh, 2020!  The start of every year is always different for me.  Some years I’m super ambitious and burst out of the gates aiming to overhaul my life, other years January 1 feels like just another day.

Maybe it’s because it’s a new decade, or because life moves so much faster with a toddler, but I started 2020 pretty adamant.  This is the year I make some changes.

First, let me backtrack.

The last two months of 2019 were an absolute blur.  Like the rest of the world, I was consumed by holiday parties, family gatherings and a crazy work schedule.  We hosted out of towners, got sick (never fun) and had tons of work and extracurricular responsibilities to tend to.

I had no routine to fall back on.  No plan.  It was a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants and pray situation.  Reactive and not proactive.  The blog suffered.  And so did many other things.  I’m an outer order, inner calm person, so this didn’t sit well with me.

Hence my desire to make some changes.  Establish great routines.  And stick to them.

Three years ago I read the book The Power of Habit and fell in love with the message.  I finished feeling so inspired and ready to take on the world.  But I lacked a plan.  A blueprint.  While I love the book, it didn’t provide anything I could implement right now.

Enter, Atomic Habits.  The whole point of this book is to provide you with a blueprint.  The author actually says his intention is to pick up where The Power of Habit leaves off.

Why do I love it?  Because the goal is the aggregation of marginal gains.  No major overhauls.  No drastic changes.  Just a 1% change.  Over time, that 1% change will completely transform your routines, your habits and therefore, your life.

Here are the routines I am implementing in 2020.  I hope you find inspiration in them too.  Let’s support each other!

In Spades 2020 Goals

1. Wake up at 5:30am.  I do my best work in the morning.  Now that I have a child, this is truly the only time of day I have completely to myself.  I’m starting with a workout and then checking off my to-do list at my desk.

2. Post 3 times per week.  This is going to be a tough one as my posting schedule has been pretty erratic up until this point.  But I have so much to share; so much I want to talk about.  So I’m making the commitment to you.  Which leads me to…

3. Recognize that complete and imperfect is better than incomplete and perfect.  The main obstacle in my completion of work is the nagging feeling it has to be perfect.  I’m a perfectionist.  But something that never sees the light of day will never be perfect.  So get it done, get it out there and don’t worry about perfection.  It doesn’t exist!

4. Share more video.  Every week I post 2 video series’ on Instagram: Fashion Friday and my Sunday Series.  I have yet to talk about them here on the blog (no idea why?!) but am going to fix that.  You can always find them on my Instagram Highlight reel, but look out for them on the blog too.

What do you hope to achieve in 2020?

The Most Flattering Wide Leg Cropped Pants

October 25, 2019

You guys, these pants are SO flattering.

I first talked about them on Stories and they were so popular, they made their way into your Top 5 Favorites.  And rightly so.

They come in six colors, short and regular lengths, and are only $68.

$68!

They run TTS (I’m wearing a 0 Short).  If you are long torsoed and have short legs like me, I recommend going for the short length just so they have that true cropped effect.  I also ordered the regular length to compare, but loved how the short hit me right above the ankle bone versus right at the ankle bone in the regular length.

Beyond the color options and amazing price, what I love about these pants is that they are so flattering on all body types.  Definitely check them out if you are pear or apple shaped.  The wide leg, stretchy fabric and cropped length balance the proportion of bigger hips/tummy.  And if you’re slender, they look equally amazing on athletic body types thanks to the side pockets and clean front.

The fabric is perfect for fall – not too hot, not too lightweight – and thanks to the stretch, they are super comfortable.  I’m so tempted to get the straight leg and slim leg versions because these pants are just divine.

Oh, and did I mention they are machine washable and look brand new no matter how many times you wash them?

Seriously, what are you waiting for?  Get yourself a pair of these babies ASAP.

The Summer Dress That Looks Good on Everyone

With only one more week until the official start of summer, I wanted to share a dress that I’ll be reaching for again and again in the coming months.

It’s flirty, it’s twirly, it’s cotton, it’s mini.  Basically the perfect summer staple.  You’ve seen a version of this dress before – it was one of your Top 5 Favorites in May.

Rhode Resort is a brand I discovered more than a year ago and I immediately fell hard.  Their specialty is resort wear in vibrant prints and colors.  I love that they stick to a formula – they basically do the same 5 dresses and mix up the fabric.

The Ella dress is my absolute favorite.  The proportions are spot on; 3/4 length sleeves with a mini skirt.  The fabric is breathable and comfortable – hello cotton.  And the fit couldn’t be easier.  It’s basically a tunic with a voluminous skirt.  The fact that you can cinch the waist according to your shape makes this style look good on everyone. Plus, the back is slightly longer than the front, so you don’t have to worry about it being too mini.

I dressed mine up with a statement bag and patent leather mules in a pop color, but it looks just as fabulous worn casually.  I’ve paired it with espadrille sneakers and flat leather sandals.  It would also look amazing with a western inspired bootie.

I’ve linked some of my favorite prints and colors below (majority are on sale), along with some other styles from the brand.  One of my fave retailers is having an additional 25% off the sale.  Get ’em while they’re hot!
