Shopbop Sales Faves

April 14, 2022

Re/Done Stovepipe JeansJeans and Clogs linked below

Shopbop’s Style Event ends today, and I wanted to share some recent purchases and go-to brands that are part of the sale.

I have a very specific strategy for these sales.  I stick to brands I buy over and over again – my favorite jeans, the best hat brand, the most comfortable swimwear line, and my go-to loungewear.

Here are some pieces I’ve invested in that have excellent cost-per-wear.

Everyday

Beach

Dressy

Top 5 Favorites – March 2022

April 8, 2022

Clip-in BangsAnd just like that, we’re a week into April.  I’m not sure how the weather has been where you are, but we’ve had cold, rainy days followed by 90-degree heat in SoCal.  At least I get to wear all facets of my wardrobe.  Hah!

But on to your Top 5 Favorites from March 2022.

Last month my review posts got a ton of traffic.  Whether it was jeans or shoes, you wanted to know about specific brands, and those brands sold.

Here’s what you loved in March.

Clogs

I did a round-up of one of spring’s biggest shoe trends, clogs, and you guys seem to love them as much as I do.  I bought these and these (stay tuned for styled posts) and shared them on Instagram, where you helped me decide on some winners.

Sneakers

After swearing off white sneakers (unless they’re leather), I fell down the rabbit hole trying to find Adidas velcro sneakers in my size.  While my quest was futile, I did end up purchasing these, which I love.  I wear them a TON.  The off-white color gives them a unique pop and they’re comfortable enough to wear for 10 hours at Disneyland.

Princess Heels

Full disclosure, these babies run STEEP.  They’re a significant investment, but my review of the pair I purchased garnered a lot of attention.  Are they worth it?  In a nutshell, yes.  Read on for the full review.

Clip-in Bangs

My genius stylist Cheng knows I have wanted bangs for years but am too scared to take the leap.  After trying several pairs of clip-ins (and looking like Peg Bundy) she found THE perfect clip-ins for me.  Seriously the best $15 you could spend.  Check them out in all their glory here.

Straight Leg Jeans

At this point, I should probably just give these jeans a permanent spot on the list.  Yes, they are probably my favorite pair of jeans EVER.  They fit amazingly well and I’m about ready to purchase pair #3.  What do you think of them?

Knit set for Spring

April 7, 2022

Jonathan Simkhai knit skirt set

Knit sets were all over the Spring 2022 runways.  I love the mix and match possibilities with a set.  Check out 4 different ways I styled this one – together, with jeans, casually and something extra.

This set is a bit of a departure for me style-wise as I shy away from anything form-fitting, but it’s so comfortable and versatile I had to have it.  The buttons on the skirt really flatter the body.  You can wear them buttoned, opened on one side or both sides.

I’ve also worn the top with the tie as a halter and tied it down at the sweetheart neckline.  There are just so many possibilities with this set!

Platform Pumps: Valentino Vs. Versace

March 18, 2022

Versace Medusa PlatformsI’ve been coveting the Valentino Tan-go platform pumps ever since they dropped.  They are SO vampy and fun.  And when Pierpaolo debuted his Pink PP collection and I saw them in Valentino’s newest signature hue, I about died.

These shoes were made to be seen.  They were made to elevate the stature AND the psyche.  And indeed they do.

Unfortunately, my fear of breaking my ankle was founded  While I didn’t actually break my ankle, it became clear when I tried them on that these are not the shoes for me.

So I tried the Versace platform pumps.

I literally squealed out loud when I put them on.  They made me feel like Barbie.  Everything was coming up roses in these shoes!

The wider toe bed and heel make these much easier to walk in compared to the Valentinos.  Yes, they are still 6-inch platforms so you won’t be going very far in them, but they are definitely easier on your center of gravity.

I’m not going to lie.  These babies are like a tractor beam.  Every time I try to break away, they keep reigning me back in.  I think it’s only a matter of time before I succumb.

Shoe trends are funny like that.  Or should I say “strategic?”  Last year we got the flatform sandal for summer.  And then the lug sole platform-esque Chelsea boots for fall.  Platform pumps are the next step in the evolution.  And I’m here for it.

Want the look for less?  Try these more affordable alternatives.

Life Lately

March 17, 2022

Flare Leg Jeans Stranger Things tshirt

You guys, how has it been 6 months since I’ve done a Life Lately?!

Home Decor

In my last LL I talked about redecorating my home office.  I ended up purchasing this wallpaper and regret it.  It doesn’t fit the color palette or vibe of our house.  I’m trying to decide if I should paint the accent wall in my office or try another wallpaper.  What I do know, is that I want a deep green hue.

I am super excited for this mirror to arrive.  I also purchased these curtains and this area rug.  Next up is a trip to Palm Springs where I hope to find some treasures at the vintage shops in Cathedral City.

What are your favorite sources for home decor?

Reading, Watching, Listening

I just finished The Trojan Horse Affair podcast and the following books.  I’m loving The Dropout on Hulu.  Highly recommend all for very different reasons.

Fitness

My workout routine can presently be described as “anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly.”  While I adore our Peloton and the Peloton app, it’s opened the door to quick workouts.  I always used to exercise for one hour NO MATTER WHAT.  Now we live in a world where workouts are 20min.  Efficient and preferred, yes.  But is it really doing anything?  First step is to do it consistently.  I do a combo of bodyweight strength, shadowboxing, barre and the bike.  Will report back.

Fashion

I recently did a Fashion Friday about 90s and 00s fashion being the most sought after vintage.  Yes, I too, still cannot wrap my head around the fact that the 2000s are vintage.  These flare leg jeans are from the early aughts and I had fun breaking them out again.  Paired with a long shirt and cardigan because they are definitely low rise.

I hope to make it to this vintage shop the next time I’m in NYC.  In the meantime, I’m coveting a pair of platforms like nobody’s business.  More on that tomorrow…
