Life Lately

Sandro BlazerSummer is flying.

I’ve been enjoying family time and admittedly haven’t focused on posting much.  But I love this little outlet of mine and engaging with all of you, so here’s to getting back into the swing of things.

Here’s what I’ve been up to this month.

Watching and Reading 

We finished Stranger Things and LOVED it.  It’s so hard to keep momentum going with a concept this nuanced and I was really impressed with how they kept it fresh and intriguing.

If you haven’t seen Only Murders in the Building, please add it to your queue.  It’s SO hilarious and well done.  Plus, the costuming has me very excited for fall outfits.

I finished this book and this book and really enjoyed them both.  They are quick reads, so if you have a vacation coming up, I highly recommend them.

Recent Purchases

Speaking of Stranger Things, I saw these at Nordstrom and immediately fell in love.  They give me an 80s vibe and are super comfortable.  A splurge, yes, but I’ve already worn them a ton.

What I’m Coveting

Barbiecore is trending and I’m here for it.  I really want these mules and have put myself on the waitlist for these sneakers in pink.

I wrote before how Banana Republic has made a comeback and a quick pop into their new Fashion Valley store reconfirmed it for me.  This oversized poplin shirt is a classic and I want to pair it with this sweater vest for fall.

WOW.  Spring has completely flown by.  School is almost out for the summer, people are vacationing, life is moving.

Here’s what’s been going on in my Life Lately.

Life

Spring hit us hard with back-to-back colds, busy work schedules and weekend trips.  We attended Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim (yes, I am a nerd at heart), hit up Disneyland, spent time with family in Newport and are gearing up to switch schools this summer.

I’m really making an effort to be present, put my phone down and live life through my own eyes (and not a screen).

Fashion

I’ve been super into flare leg/wide leg jeans, matching sets and sunglasses.  This set is so pretty and can be mixed and matched.  These wide leg jeans are super light weight and perfect for summer.  And these are my new everyday go-to pair of jeans.

Beauty

I started using this facial oil and saw a dramatic improvement in my melasma, so I bought the rest of the line.  I just finished my first round and will definitely be continuing it.

What I’m Reading

I just picked up Dress Code and the prologue felt like the author was reading my mind.  It’s a collection of essays on fashion – why we wear what we wear, what it means to our psyche, how we use it to communicate.  I highly recommend it for other fashion lovers.

Home Decor

In my last LL I talked about redecorating my home office.  I ended up purchasing this wallpaper and regret it.  It doesn’t fit the color palette or vibe of our house.  I’m trying to decide if I should paint the accent wall in my office or try another wallpaper.  What I do know, is that I want a deep green hue.

I am super excited for this mirror to arrive.  I also purchased these curtains and this area rug.  Next up is a trip to Palm Springs where I hope to find some treasures at the vintage shops in Cathedral City.

Reading, Watching, Listening

I just finished The Trojan Horse Affair podcast and the following books.  I’m loving The Dropout on Hulu.  Highly recommend all for very different reasons.

Fitness

My workout routine can presently be described as “anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly.”  While I adore our Peloton and the Peloton app, it’s opened the door to quick workouts.  I always used to exercise for one hour NO MATTER WHAT.  Now we live in a world where workouts are 20min.  Efficient and preferred, yes.  But is it really doing anything?  First step is to do it consistently.  I do a combo of bodyweight strength, shadowboxing, barre and the bike.  Will report back.

Fashion

I recently did a Fashion Friday about 90s and 00s fashion being the most sought after vintage.  Yes, I too, still cannot wrap my head around the fact that the 2000s are vintage.  These flare leg jeans are from the early aughts and I had fun breaking them out again.  Paired with a long shirt and cardigan because they are definitely low rise.

I hope to make it to this vintage shop the next time I’m in NYC.  In the meantime, I’m coveting a pair of platforms like nobody’s business.  More on that tomorrow…

Life Lately

Lack of Color HatI don’t know about you, but this week felt like it FLEW by.  We moved from London to Milan Fashion Week, we experienced the first day of fall, and I somehow managed to make it to Friday without really remembering what kept me so busy all week.

That said, I don’t have any in-depth fashion week recaps for you (check Insta Stories), but I do have some life lately updates.

Wearing

If you’ve been reading In Spades for a while, you know that bespoke jewelry is something I’ve been collecting for years.  I’ve transformed old jewelry into new pieces, discovered indie designers and even designed my own pieces (more on that soon).

Today I shared a Reel on Instagram of my latest acquisition.  I’m OBSESSED.

Home Decor

Some people do cleanses for the body, some people do cleanses for their space.  I’ve done both, but I’m much more of a “we need a TOTAL redecoration!” person.

It won’t be anything major.  Wallpaper, a new area rug, some small furniture and drapery.  Okay, that actually sounds more intense than I thought.

I’m in love with this wallpaper, but have found a much more affordable option that I love too.  Stay tuned for home decor inspo.

Reading & Listening

I finished Olympus, Texas and highly recommend it.  While it started off slow, the subtext, nuanced relationships and “make you think” moments really stuck with me.

I’m now on to The Lazy Genius Way.  I’m hoping it will inspire me to not write 11th-hour blog posts.  🙂  J/K.

I also started listening to the newly released episodes of The Dropout podcast.  If you haven’t read Bad Blood, stop what you’re doing and go buy it.  It’s a true story and one of my favorite books ever.  The Dropout podcast picks up where it leaves off.  Now that Elizabeth Holmes, the star of this story, has begun her court proceedings, they’ve released new episodes.  I’m riveted.

Reminiscing

This week marked the return of NYFW and I’m feeling all the nostalgia feels.  While I had been prepared to move on from NYFW (more on that here), the return of something that was once a big part of my life definitely has me missing NYC.

Learning

I recently had a fabulous chat with two of my dear friends Cecelia and Conni.  They both introduced me to Advocate [The Label], an ethical clothing line dedicated to supporting victims of human trafficking.  I encourage you to read more about this amazing brand.

Reading

I picked up Olympus, Texas at the recommendation of a friend.  It has a slow start, but I’m really starting to enjoy it.  A passage from the book really stuck with me.  It said that when we endure something, our brain is triggered for the need for reward.  I couldn’t help but think about how this relates to the world’s behavior amidst a pandemic.

Indulging

I tend to invest in a new designer handbag every couple of years.  When I laid eyes on the 80s-est of 80s handbags, I fell in love.  It was, of course, only a matter of time before it came home with me.  Stay tuned for an Instagram Reel reveal.
