Net-a-Porter Sale Picks

June 2, 2021

Bermuda shorts suitWearing pieces I scored in the Net-a-Porter sale over the years

The Net-a-Porter sale started yesterday and I’m so excited.  Surprise, surprise, this is one of my favorite sales of the year.  I score the majority of my designer pieces in this sale (as well as this one which started last week).

There is a strategy to shopping this sale (and ALL of the designer seasonal sales for that matter).  I’ve talked about it extensively before, but here’s a recap of what you need to know.

The Lowdown

Buy now, return later.

As the summer wears on, the discounts will get deeper and more merchandise will be added to the mix.  Get what you want NOW because items are still returnable for a full refund.  In a few weeks, they won’t be.

NYFW SS19 OOTD 2

Buy multiple sizes.

Unless you know FOR SURE what size you are, I highly recommend ordering an item in two sizes to be safe.

Follow the step above for whichever size doesn’t work.

Utilize your Wish List.

One of my biggest shopping tips is to keep a year-round Wish List active with your favorite retailers.  Rather than searching through 4000 dresses – or even just every item from the brand you love – go directly to your Wish List.

You’ll be able to see if your items went on sale and immediately add-to-cart from one screen.  No clicking through multiple pages or sifting through tons of categories.

Budget for the late release brands.

“Late release brands” are the premium luxury brands that won’t start their discounts with the rest of the designer sales.  They can vary from retailer to retailer, but Prada, Celine and Christian Louboutin are three of them.  These brands may have some accessories on sale now, but their big discount push will happen in late June/early July.

If you have something from a late release brand on your Wish List, make sure you allocate your budget accordingly.

It’s really easy to get overwhelmed by these sales and forget what your focus was in the first place.  Don’t just buy to buy or buy because something is marked down.

Fashion Friday

May 28, 2021

It came to my attention that this month marks the 10 year anniversary of the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag.

This was a significant bag for many reasons.  First, it debuted during the peak of the “It bag” era.  Because it was a new indie brand on the scene, there were no boutiques; no retailers with long-standing brand relationships.  It was incredibly hard to get.  And everyone wanted one.

Mansur Gavriel was the proverbial fashion unicorn.

I, of course, was not excluded from this group (I own 4).

Back when they were extremely hard to come by, I wrote a post, How to Score a Mansur Gavriel Bag During Restock.  To this day, it’s one of my most popular blog posts of all time.

I think what really set this bag apart – besides its elegant, simplistic design – was the pricepoint.  Coming in between $500 – $700 depending on the size, it was accessible luxury.  Louis Vuitton was just as coveted, but in a totally different price category.  Mansur Gavriel had the same frenzied popularity, but it wasn’t that far out of reach for the average woman.

And thus a perfect storm was born.

Did you own one?

Helen Ficalora Initial NecklaceIt’s crazy to me to look back at some of the retailers that carried Mansur Gavriel – like Barney’s.  It truly makes this “It bag” phenomenon feel like an eternity ago.

While Instagram has paved the way for a new era of “It bags,” I don’t think I’ve seen a 2013-Mansur-Gavriel-level-frenzy in modern-day.  The closest I can come up with is the Bottega Veneta pouch (I have one of those too).  Both with the two pricepoints being so different, I think the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag remains in a category all its own… 10 years and counting.

Mansur Gavriel’s Memorial Day sale will get you 20% off with code RAINBOW20.

New Clean Beauty Makeup Favorites

May 26, 2021

Clean beauty makeupI picked up some new clean beauty products last month.  After using them for all of April and May, I can confidently say I’ve found some new clean beauty makeup favorites.
Brow gel

I’ve tried Glossier and Anastasia Beauty (my fave before discovering this one), but this brow gel gives the effect of an eyebrow pencil while holding your brows in place.  I love that it comes in so many color options.

I wear Medium Chocolate Brown.

Eye Shadow Palette

I’ve been on the hunt for a clean beauty eyeshadow palette that can replace my beloved Charlotte Tilbury one.  This one is gorgeous and such a good deal ($25).  The quality is nourishing and highly pigmented.  I’ve tried other more expensive clean beauty eyeshadow that is dry and dull.  NOT this one.

Blush

I honestly believe the best blush ever made is Nars Orgasm.  This one is its clean beauty counterpart.  I adore the not-to-sweet pink hue.  It’s a radiant finish so it doesn’t look like you’ve covered your face in glitter, but it does reflect light beautifully.

Lipstick

Okay, I’ve actually been wearing this lipstick for years.  It’s the perfect everyday, neutral pink.  I recently bought this color and it’s so fun for summer.

The nourishing formula stays put and I love it.

Life Lately

May 21, 2021

LolaIt’s been a while since I did a Life Lately post (5 months!) so I thought I’d share what’s been going on in my world.

This month we said goodbye to our sweet girl, Lola.  After 13 wonderful years, she crossed the rainbow bridge.  I won’t lie; it was incredibly hard and still is.  Sharing the news opened up so many heartfelt stories and responses from you.  I’m so grateful to be a part of an awesome community.

If you’ve been in my house, you know that artwork is not my strong suit.  I love and appreciate it, but have always been very bad about procuring and displaying it.  While walking the aisles of Target last weekend, I saw a woman carrying a large frame that looked identical to a Framebridge piece I have.  I beelined to the frame aisle and picked one up to display a photo of our sweet Lola.

It’s identical to the Framebridge one, great quality and only $18.

I also picked up this dress from Target’s collab with Christopher John Rogers.  It’s fun, flirty and has pockets (yay!) but I found it to run a tad small in the hips and it’s a bit restricting in the arms.

Want to know a secret for buying affordable designer collab pieces?  Stick to 100% cotton garments only.  They look and feel the best.  Trust me.

I’ve been doing a lot of journaling lately and realized my daughter’s baby book had run out of pages.  I picked up this one, which goes from pregnancy to 18 years.

What I love is that it has space for photos, blank pages and the questions are small and digestible.  There’s no pressure to document every tiny detail or write a dissertation.  I find the path of least resistance usually wins, and the ease of this baby book is awesome.

Finally, after hearing great things about Jessica Simpson’s autobiography I put it in my Target cart.  I’m only on page 70 but have laughed so hard and truly enjoyed her writing style.  Definitely recommend.
