In honor of throwback Thursday, I’d had to pay homage to one of the greatest, campiest fashion love stories of all time – Mannequin. Mannequin gave us Kim Cattrall and Andrew McCarthy playing dress up for about two hours, their glorious sidekick Hollywood, and it paved the way for the infamous shopping montage in Pretty Woman. An over-the-knee boot unicorn. The moment these touched my feet, every lady in my proximity – even the ladies of advanced, distinguished style – approved of their magic. “Get them, darling. They are meant for you.” I obliged. And I believed.

Desperately Seeking Celine

Long ago, I fell in love with the Celine Luggage Tote.  Sure, a lot of people say they can see a “face” on the front, but to me it was the right amount of masculine and feminine, detailed yet basic.  It had juxtaposition.  My favorite element in the whole wide fashion world.
But by the time I could get my hands on one, the Mini Luggage had become really over-saturated.  It ran it’s course on street style blogs, with celebrities and I even started to see teenagers carrying it!  Was the Mini Luggage going the way of the Chloe Paddington?  In 2013 alone, Celine raised its price three times.  I needed to make a decision.  Fast.
If something is no longer unique, does it make it less desirable?  Is there a law of diminishing return?  I have never been one to ascribe to the “everyone has it so I want it too” phenomenon.  I revel in weird.  Different. 
I almost purchased the Edge instead.  The Edge is a lady bag.  You will still look fabulous carrying it at the age of 70.  It’s super durable leather is expertly sealed seven times to create those perfect angles.  It can be carried on your shoulder or elbow and it’s slightly cheaper than the Mini Luggage.
But is it a little boring?  Too basic? 
The day my navy baby entered my life I knew I made the right decision.  It didn’t matter to me that it was no longer the most unique piece on the block.  The Mini Luggage is what made me fall in love with the brand in the first place.  It has a unique aesthetic, yet is based on a simple and functional design – luggage.

Desperately seeking no longer.
