What I’m Coveting: Linen

The Best Linen Blazers

Linen blazer

Normally this time of year I’m frantically pulling together my New York Fashion Week looks.  Normally my brain is set on nothing but fall fashion.

But this year is quite different, of course.  There will be no NYFW.  (More on that later).  There will be no rush to break out my leather jackets, boots and sweaters.

This year I’m all about extending that summer-time vibe.  And if there’s a fabric of summer, it’s linen.  I adore a head-to-toe linen look.  There is something Lake-Como-George-Clooney about it.  Like I should sitting on a veranda, holding a glass of rose, overlooking the Italian countryside while wearing it.

I’ve collected quite a few fabulous linen pieces over the years and wanted to share some of my favorites.

This blazer is an awesome transitional piece.  It will carry you well into fall.  Bonus points – it’s currently 40% off and comes in 4 colors.

Net-a-Porter Sale Picks Under $250

July 22, 2020

Earlier this week I did a sale round-up of designer finds from Need Supply under $250.

Net-a-porter just marked their sale down to 80% off and there are too many good deals not to share! For today’s What I’m Coveting, I’m highlighting my go-to brands from Net-a-porter.

I adore this brand and this brand for loungewear.  Check out my styled pieces here and here.

One of my favorite denim lines has tons of shorts and jeans on sale.  Check out this post for style and fit tips on their shorts and this post for style and fit tips on their jeans.

For summer dresses, you can’t go wrong with this brand.  Remember this summer dress that looks good on everyone? It’s on sale in several colors!

Finally, hello swimwear.  So many good deals including this brand that I love.

What I’m Coveting: Flatforms

July 15, 2020

FlatformsEarlier this spring I wrote about my favorite summer sandals.  There are 3 styles I rotate between and one is flat platform sandals (AKA flatforms).

You’ve probably seen hiking sandals come back on the scene and let me just say I’m here for it.  You know I love an ugly shoe.

I wore Tevas and ridiculously heavy Dr. Marten sandals (with socks, mind you!) back in the day and I am kicking myself for not saving any of them.

Not only are flatforms super comfortable (most are made of rubber) but the added heigh makes them chic and versatile.  You CAN pair them with elevated outfits.

Bring on the sporty flatforms!

I recently ordered these and these in multiple colors and am having the hardest time deciding what to keep.  Both styles are SUPER comfortable, waterproof and versatile.  When fashion and function meet, it’s absolutely a win-win.  I’m going to get SO much wear out of these this summer.  Which ones you do you like best?

What I’m Coveting: Pool Attire

July 8, 2020

Pool attire

This past weekend was GLORIOUS so naturally I have pool time on the brain.

I saw these shorts and fell in love.  They remind me of something out of a Slim Aarons’ photo.

Pool Attire I’m Coveting

Sexy bikini top and high waisted bottoms – bathing suits are not my favorite, but a chic, black bikini is a forever classic.  I love the wrap top (can be tied so many different ways!) and the high waisted bottoms for coverage.

Hat with ties – after scoring this hat, I pretty much want every hat I buy from here on out to have ties.  It’s helpful if it’s windy or if you’re playing in the pool with a toddler.

Mermaid floatie – I mean, how cute is this?

Tote bag – this cushiony fabric stole my heart.  Love the vibrant blue for summer.  Bonus points – it’s waterproof!

Puka shell necklace – these shells are HUGE and remind me of a very expensive JW Anderson chain link choker I had my heart set on.  This one is much cheaper and you can adjust the length.

White one piece – any one piece with a belt screams “mod” and I’m here for it.  Love the ribbed texture of this one.

Massive sun hat – pool time needs a good dramatic moment and this hat does the trick (while also being functional).

Tevas – you need waterproof shoes at the pool and these are not only on trend, but super comfy and give you added height.  Win-win-win.

One-shoulder one piece – this asymmetrical double one-shoulder is so posh.  Sign me up!

Mykonos book – if I can’t travel, you better believe I want to look at gorgeous beach pictures while I sit poolside.

Beaded bracelet – loving the throwback vibe of this bracelet.

Pool shorts – the piece that inspired this post, I just can’t get enough of these!

Favorite cutoffs – I’ve written about these before.  Get them before they sell out.  They are truly the best denim cutoffs ever!

Sneaker Roundup: The Best Affordable to Designer Styles

July 1, 2020

I can’t lie.  I’ve been coveting a pair of platform sneakers.  Maybe it’s pandemic fashion (comfort is key) or the fact that my beloved Adidas x Stella McCartney sneakers have seen better days, but I have sneakers on the brain.

I love sneakers because they are SO versatile.  From function to fashion, they serve every sartorial need.

This week the long-anticipated Dior x Jordan Brand collab dropped.  People entered a lottery for a chance to purchase a pair of hand-painted $2,200 Air Jordan 1s.

Fun fact: Check out this Jeff Goldblum documentary about the underground world of sneakerheads to see just how fanatical this sartorial group is.

All this fanfare got me thinking about the sneakers I currently own.  Below is a round-up of my favorite sneakers from affordable to designer and the pros and cons of each.

Converse

Converse sneakersThe ultimate classic sneaker.  These date back to the early 1900’s. (Converse Chuck Taylors were the official shoe of the US military!)  They look good on everyone and will NEVER go out of style.

Pros: affordable; timeless; fun collaboration styles

Cons: not much support; white canvas gets dirty/fades easily

Sizing: TTS, although I sized down a half-size in my low top Chuck Taylors.

Vans

Vans sliponsFrom skaters to beach kids, these sneakers have a fiercely loyal following and I too, adore them.

Pros: affordable; cool, edgy vibe; classic slip-on style is easy to wear (socks or not); progressive company that offers a ton of limited edition collabs

Cons: take a while to break in

Sizing: TTS; size down if you are in between sizes.

Bucketfeet

Bucketfeet sneakersThese were my go-to shoes during pregnancy b/c they are SO comfortable. I even wore them home from the hospital.

My sister introduced me to this brand over 5 years ago and I love their brand mission.  They create classic slip-ons and lace-ups, but commission indie artists from around the world to design them.  Anyone can submit a design!

Pros: affordable; SUPER comfortable thanks to the “massaging bubbles” at the base of the insole; fresh styles constantly available

Cons: none!

Sizing: TTS; size down if you are in between sizes.

P448

P448 SneakersThink of P448 as the more affordable, yet still designer alternative to Golden Goose.  I love these lowtops; they zip up so you never have to lace them.

Pros: mid-range price with designer-level style; can ALWAYS find them on sale

Cons: more expensive than most sneakers; the styles aren’t as sophisticated as Golden Goose

Sizing: Size up.  I’m usually a 36 or 36.5 and I got a 37 in these.

Golden Goose

Golden Goose Superstar SneakersI’ve written before on whether Golden Goose are worth it.  In a word, absolutely.  They are the most stylish of the bunch.  I truly believe you can wear them with anything.

Pros: SUPER versatile; sophisticated style; highest quality; durable

Cons: expensive; can scream “blogger uniform” (invest in what pulls at your heartstrings, NOT what you “think” you should wear)

Sizing: TTS.  They do NOT come in half sizes so size down if you are in between sizes.
