Today is an exciting day for me because it marks the 1 year anniversary of In Spades!

When I think about all that has happened in the past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, appreciation and excitement. When I first started In Spades, it existed in a virtual vacuum. I didn’t tell anyone about it. Looking back, perhaps this was because I was a little embarrassed. Fashion blogging was already extremely over saturated. Did I have anything different to throw into the mix? Would it be good? Would anyone even read it? Anytime you put yourself out there, there is a very large chance you’ll be met with crickets, or worse, total rejection. But on May 5th, 2014 I decided to just get over it and tell my friends and family that the journey, had in fact, begun.

And look where the journey has taken me. I’ve attended New York Fashion Week. Twice. I’ve seen Bill Cunningham in person. I’ve collaborated with one of my favorite local boutiques. I’ve been introduced to exciting new brands. I’ve interviewed up-and-coming and world-renowned designers. I’ve made new friends and connected with fellow bloggers worldwide.

So thank you to all for your support. Thank you for reading, commenting and liking my posts. Without your interaction, this would just be an online diary. Because of you, it’s a blog. A blog I’m very proud of and one I’m excited to grow.

A huge thank you also goes out to the man behind the camera. He is the other half of In Spades, the one who indulges my crazy, dramatic whims. Thank you, dear husband.

Here’s to Year One!

In our house, May the 4th is absolutely a recognized holiday.  Someday I secretly hope to live in the Star Wars universe and become a Jedi, but until then I’ll have to settle for the virtues of a mere mortal and express myself sartorially.  George, Disney, feel free to call anytime.  I’m not waiting by the phone or anything.

I am normally a dark wash denim gal. White denim is just so tricky. Pockets show through and most pairs seem to be more legging than jean. When I first found AMO denim, I was sure I’d go with one of their darker washes, but the Twist in Moon Destroy is the perfect pair of near-white denim. What I love about this line is that their jeans are how you remember denim from back in the day. The “no one comes between me and my Calvin’s” day. Instead of tissue thin and super stretchy, these have some weight to them and are constructed to hold shape rather than melt into a puddle the minute you take them off. I especially love the twisted seam and v-shaped opening at the leg. Such a great detail to compliment a basic silhouette.

I’m a sucker for texture. When I saw this skirt within a skirt featuring a geometric overlay, I was of course, sold. It’s neutral black and white palette make it super versatile for dressing up or down and it goes swimmingly with my favorite smoking jacket.  Plus it allows me to add fun touches like fuchsia lipstick and a little cat friend.  Every classic outfit needs a golden cheetah with ruby eyeballs.

Thank you to everyone who came out for Brunch at Vocabulary! I so enjoyed meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. We had so much fun sipping on champagne cocktails and nibbling on bites from Bread & Cie, The French Gourmet and Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. While we shopped to the tunes of the 1960’s, Beauty by Dolly gave us all brows a la Audrey. It was a fabulous afternoon! Until next time, Darling!
