3 Tips for Styling Ugg Boots

December 18, 2019

Last week I talked about how to style Ugg boots for every day.  Today I want to continue the convo!

Just about everyone has Uggs in their closet.  Especially during winter, they get worn a ton.  I always struggled with how to style mine so they look fashion-forward and not like I was about to hit the ski slopes.  But I’ve cracked the code!

Of course Uggs are meant to be worn on the mountain, but in case you don’t have a ski vacation planned, here are my tips for wearing them day-to-day.

Tips for Styling Uggs

1. Choose the right bottom – skinny or slim leg pants.  While I love the wide leg trend, Ugg boots are meant to be highlighted, not hidden.  Opt for a slimmer leg to really show them off.  Bonus points for ease of wear – tuck in and go!

2. Pair them with a statement piece.  Whether it’s a pop color like my vintage sweater, or multiple layers (think band tee and leather jacket) for a chic look, pairing Uggs with something a little edgier really brings out the fashion as opposed to the utility.

3. Accessorize. To make Uggs more every day and less sporty, grab a fun accessory.  While my beanie is totally winter-appropriate, it’s edgy too.  The emoji patch is cheeky and compliments the moon boot look.  For another option, try a textured scarf in a pop color, an arm full of bangles or an animal print belt.  I love this studded belt too.

Uggs, But Make it Fashion

December 11, 2019

I love Uggs.  Every winter they become my go-to shoes for running errands, walking the dog, and just day-to-day life.

While there was once an Uggs + denim mini skirt phase (thank you, Britney) I think most women struggle with how to style Uggs so they look presentable for every day and not just the ski slopes.

Enter the Ugg Fashion Baby collection.

“Fashion Baby is a collection that celebrates the California woman’s spirit and style.  This woman is a beguiling mix of glamour and grunge.  She can be a tomboy or ultra-feminine depending on her mood.”

Hello, could that be any more me?

When I saw these Moto Punk Mini boots I knew I had to have them.  I love the buckled toes and zip-up style.  But the best part is that they can be worn two ways.  Any piece of fashion that is a 2-in-1 is an automatic win in my book.

I styled my Uggs with the top flipped down for a more casual vibe.  For a sleek look, zip them up and buckle them.  You can see the difference in the last two side-by-side photos.  I love them both ways!

To elevate the look and make it wearable for meet-ups with friends, I paired them with my favorite handbag and sunglasses (bonus, they’re both on sale!).  These flip top jeans are super comfortable and go perfectly with the edgy vibe of the boots.  Since the jeans have a fun detail on the high waist, I went for a cropped sweater to show that off.

Voila!  A totally stylish way to wear Uggs for every day.

Later this week I’ll be sharing another way to style Uggs, “but make it fashion” for every day.  My next pair is a more traditional ski boot vibe.  Can’t wait to share them!

The End of Season Sales I’m Shopping

December 2, 2019

Cyber Monday Sales 2019

Ahh my favorite time of year.  Designer sale season.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I do a Fashion Friday series on Stories.  This past week I dedicated it to Black Friday and how to navigate the craziness.  And boy is it crazy.

Literally everything is on sale so it can be totally overwhelming.  And when we’re overwhelmed we tend to overspend and lose focus on what we really need.

Below are the designer sales I’m shopping and some tips for how to stay focused and get the best bang for your buck.  (READ: stuff you actually need and will wear)

Sales

Moda Operandi – probably my FAVORITE of them all because of the insane discount and inventory selection.  Currently up to 50% off plus an additional 30% off sale.

Net-a-Porter – Currently up to 50% off plus an additional 15% off.  My go-to for fashion AND beauty.

SSENSE – the edgy kid in the bunch, they have tons of Balenciaga and street style brands.  Definitely check out their sale on Moussy Vintage jeans.

24S – like a cool French girl with impeccable style, this retailer has a wide range of European designers (they carry Celine RTW!) and don’t charge sales tax to orders in the US.

Totokaelo – extra 10% off sale.  Amazing selection of up-and-coming indie designers like Khaite.  If you like menswear inspired pieces or structured silhouettes, Totokaelo is the shop for you.

Farfetch – the largest selection of inventory.  Period.  If you can’t find it on Farfetch, it doesn’t exist.

Matches Fashion – extra 10% off sale.  Like Farfetch, the inventory is extensive and the user experience is top-notch (their search function is incomparable).

Need Supply – extra 20% off.  A great mix of designer and affordable items.  Check out Stelen and Farrow; two trendy yet affordable brands exclusive to Need Supply.

Tips

1. Make a list and stick to it.  You should utilize your favorite retailers’ wishlist function and add to it YEAR ROUND.  That way, when Cyber Week sales hit, you can simply check to see what on your wishlist went on sale and pounce.

2. Take advantage of buy/return.  At this point in designer sale season, nothing is final sale.  If you are unsure about sizing or think an item you want may go to a further discount, but it now and take advantage of the option to return or price adjust.

3. Don’t shop when you are tired or have had a glass of wine.  Sounds odd, but when your defenses are down, you are much more likely to overspend!

Festive Holiday Attire: Print Mixing

November 27, 2019

Joie Holiday OutfitJoie Holiday OutfitJoie Holiday Outfit Joie Holiday OutfitJoie Holiday OutfitJoie Holiday Outfit Joie top, skirt and boots // Lace tights // Sunglasses

I can’t believe tomorrow is already Thanksgiving.  Eek!  Time is flying and the holidays are in full swing.

No doubt you have tons of parties, meet-ups and celebrations to attend the next 30 days.  I like having a go-to uniform I can pull out for festive celebrations.  When I saw this metallic top, I knew it was the perfect holiday piece.  It catches the light perfectly for photos and can be paired with so many things.  My initial thought was to wear it with leather pants, but I amped it up by going full force on prints.

Snakeskin is trending for fall and I love how this skirt is both fashion-forward yet versatile.  (Bonus points because it’s on sale!)  Pair it with a black turtleneck and Mary Janes, a leather jacket and combat boots, or an oversized fluffy sweater and loafers and you have three totally different looks.

Tights are a great way to instantly elevate any outfit.  Having a fun pair in your closet for the holidays is a super affordable way to take your look to the next level.  These babies come in multiple colors and garner compliments every time I wear them.

Footwear is probably the most important part of a successful holiday outfit.  Your shoes have to be comfortable because you’ll likely be standing for the majority of holiday events.  These block heel ankle boots have memory foam insoles and feel like you’re walking on a cloud!  They run TTS, also come in burgundy and the slip-on Chelsea boot style is super chic.

Bottom line, when you’re dressing for holiday festivities, go bold!  I mixed three different prints and a metallic together to create this look.  Have fun and go for it!
