Denim’s New Trend: Barrel Leg Jeans

Denim trends change all the time.  And honestly, I love it.  I wear jeans more than anything else and love experimenting with different styles.

The 80s and 90s have played a huge role in the types of denim trends we’re seeing now.  Hello, Mom jeans.  We’re also moving away from skinny jeans in favor of a true straight leg.

The newest take on straight leg jeans is a high waist, cropped style that tapers at the ankle.  Barrel jeans and balloon jeans are super flattering because they elongate the legs. While skinny jeans draw attention to your hips, barrel leg jeans even out the ratio from hip to ankle.

I love the stitching and wash on this pair, but they also come in lots of other washes and colors.

If you’re looking for a more 90s inspired style, try balloon leg jeans.  These tend to be longer in length and wider through the leg, so if you have long legs, definitely give them a try (or be prepared to wear heels or platforms).  I tried these on over the weekend and adored them.  Be sure to go up one size.

Cropped sweaters and tops are an ideal pairing with these jeans because of the high waist.  I paired my Naadam cashmere sweater (on sale for $100!) with these babies (you MUST check out the brand – read my review here).

Spring Fashion Finds: How to Score Great Deals

You know when you take a shot on an online purchase and end up hitting it out of the park?  Thus is the case with this dress.

In my quest for comfy non-maternity, maternity fashion, I came across this Topshop dress via Nordstrom.  It’s 100% cotton, the perfect length and has fun details that set it apart from a simple turtleneck dress.  How fun are the scalloped lettuce trim sleeves?  I immediately added it to cart (it was a mere $24.99!) not thinking it would be anything I’d wear past week 40.

As soon as I tried it on at home, I knew it would be sticking with me through spring and summer.  Worn with block heeled mules here, it’s perfect for outings with friends.  Paired with sneakers, it’s my go-to look for running errands.

Stripes & Flares for Fall

As the days slowly turn from California summer to crisp fall, I’m relishing the chance to break out my jackets, boots and hats.  But before I go full force (trust me, it’s taking every fiber of my being!) I’m easing into the weather change with some transitional pieces.

I picked up this Tibi top towards the end of summer and its light cotton fabric was perfect for sailing trips and brunching with friends on weekends.  Thankfully this is a style Tibi continues year round, and for fall/winter they’ve made some incredible options in silk crepe, lurex knit and tweed. The tie sleeves can be worn up or down, giving you tons of styling options.  I wore mine cinched, with the ties undone for an edgier vibe but it works just as well worn loose for a bell sleeved effect.

If you don’t have a pair of wide leg pants in your wardrobe, I highly recommend them for fall.  This Madewell pair is from last season but I’ve linked some great alternatives under $100 above.  Not only is a wider leg totally on trend, but they work incredibly well with all kinds of shoes.  For the transitional weather we’re having, I opted for open toed, suede mules, but when the temps drop I’ll definitely be breaking out my pointed toe ankle boots and velvet pumps.  This pair has an elastic waistband which is another reason why I love them – the look is much more elevated than jeans yet still super comfortable.
