You guys, believe it or not, fall is almost here.  As I gear up to attend NYFW, I’ve got fall trends on the brain.

There are so many fun, wearable trends for fall, and today I want to share three: dark florals, fresh denim and ruffles. To kick off all things fall, I’ll be hosting a shopping party with Macy’s UTC to celebrate Back to School!

I prefer dark, rich colors over pastels, and this fall will highlight a great marriage between spring’s airy prints and something a little edgier.  I love this top because it actually has three trends going on in one.  The dark floral print, the ruffled v-neck and print mixing.  Mixed media can be a tricky look to pull off, so when it’s all done for you in one fabulous top, its a major win.

Denim will always be on trend, and as we move into fall and Back to School, it’s a great time to freshen up your collection.  I’ve been gravitating towards all dark colors – jet black, brushed charcoal and deep indigo, and these exposed button Levi’s were a no-brainer.  The cropped style is pretty much a must nowadays (hello ankle boot season) and the high waist is so flattering.

If you’re in the San Diego area, join me on August 11 to shop all these fabulous trends!  My dear friend and fellow blogger Paulina of Lil Bits of Chic and I will be hosting a Styling Competition. There will be music, a DIY station, photobooth and you could win amazing prizes including a personal styling session with me and Paulina.

Details below.

Summertime brings in a wave of “where to shop/eat/stay” guides, so today I wanted to share some of my favorite places to shop in San Diego.  Shopping online and cruising the mall can be convenient, but for me, it’s the hidden gems of my city that make shopping truly fun.

Thatch

I’ve talked many times before about one of my fave local jewelers, Thatch.  This women-owned company makes the best everyday dainty pieces.  I recently asked them to customize their Bella necklace with an engraved “E” for my daughter, and it’s one of my most cherished pieces.  They also make fabulous scripted necklaces, and adding their Mama pendant to the mix was like a fashion rite of passage.

The earrings I’m wearing make it look like I have a fancy piercing, but they’re just curved inward for a beautiful, edgy effect.  They also come in plain gold and are super comfortable to wear.

Pink Lagoon

Earlier this summer I discovered Pink Lagoon in Solana Beach.  They have an amazing sale going on and I picked up these cropped GRLFRND jeans for over 50% off.  Paired with this linen top (technically a jacket) it’s an easy, comfortable look that I’m reaching for over and over.

When it comes to investment pieces, these Gucci loafers and this Boyy handbag are two of my best choices.  They go with everything and really elevate any look.

Earlier this week I shared a fabulous tropical print romper.  If you’ve been curious about rocking a bold print, summer is the perfect time to do so.  Bring on the patterns and color!  Today I thought I’d switch gears and share something a little less feminine and more menswear inspired.

Trina Turk is known for her bold prints and when she partnered with Macy’s to create a collaboration for I.N.C., I knew it would be the perfect collection for summer.  Channeling her signature DNA, she created vibrant prints at really accessible price points.

This blazer is actually menswear, but women can absolutely wear it too!  I love the turquoise lining for an extra pop against the bold ikat print.  Paired with crisp white jeans and another huge trend right now – belt bags – it feels so chic and fresh.

Whenever I’m in a sartorial rut, I reach for my husband’s closet or think of different ways to wear things.  I’ve been known to wear things backward and inside out.  Never be afraid to step outside the box!  You’d be surprised by how a different way of shopping (in the menswear section, for instance) can completely refresh your look.

Bold prints don’t have to be reserved for just clothing.  If you’re normally not a print person, try experimenting with an accessory first.  I ordered these Turk x I.N.C. sandals and adored them.  They come in two prints.  I found them to run a half size big and sadly my actual size was sold out, but they are super comfy.

There’s nothing that embodies a summer vacation look more than a bold tropical print.  With summer in full swing, beach time, sun soaking and that Aloha vibe are in order.

I tend to stick to neutrals or classic prints, but when I saw this tropical print romper from Macy’s I had to have it.  The corseted waistline is super on trend, and the linen material makes it nice and cool for the record high heat we’ve been having.  Summer is a time for fewer clothes in general, so if there’s ever a time to rock a bold print, this is it!

Later this week I’ll be sharing some other ways to rock a bold print in summer.  If girly clothing isn’t your thing, stay tuned for another fun print that’s less feminine and more menswear inspired.

Mini bags are my jam (my shoulders just can’t handle the larger totes I used to carry) and this embellished crossbody comes in 7 colors including a fun graffiti print.  The size is perfect for my sunglasses, phone and wallet and the clasp is a nod to the logomania that will be all over the fall runways.  Hello, perfect transition piece!

I honestly can’t believe summer is more than halfway over.  I’m having so much fun wearing my breezier pieces (something I thought I’d never say considering I’m a fall/winter girl!).  If you’re like me and tend toward fall looks, try pairing your summer dresses with boots, or throw a leather or suede jacket over a romper like this one.  It’s a great way to make use of your wardrobe year round.

Fear not, if you aren’t a Nordstrom cardholder, you can apply for one here.  Don’t want a Credit card?  Apply for the Debit card that links directly to your bank account.

Public access for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale begins on July 20th.

If you watched me on Instagram TV, you know I shared tips for how to shop this sale.  There is a definite strategy involved, so I recommend following these tips.

  1. Buy now, return later.  Things will absolutely sell out fast.  Utilize Nordstrom’s amazing return policy (plus free return shipping!).
  2. Stock up on basics.  This is the sale to buy those bread & butter pieces that normally never go on sale.  Save the specialty items and trendy pieces for another time!
  3. Hone in on quality.  My recommendations below are pieces I’ve personally tried and tested.  With thousands of items going on sale, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with analysis paralysis.  My commitment to you is only to recommend the very best.
