Bucketfeet

March 23, 2015

DancingBucketfeet Bucketfeet7 Bucketfeet6 Bucketfeet9 Bucketfeet10 Bucketfeet14a Bucketfeet11 I’m always on the hunt for new designers and brands, so when my sister bought me a pair of Bucketfeet I was immediately intrigued. The company was born out of a chance encounter between two strangers in Argentina who sketched a pair of shoes that launched a worldwide conversation. Based in Chicago, their mission is to support artists everywhere by including a different design on every shoe.  What I love about Bucketfeet, other than their whimsical designs and super comfy “massaging bubble” insoles, is that they bring people together through art and fashion.  The ability to share an artist’s story from around the world by incorporating it into the way I express myself is a creative conversation I will forever consider a privilege.  So, go forth and create.  Dive into awesomeness.  Start the conversation.

Urban Adventure

Berenik6 Berenik8 Berenik7 Berenik10 Berenik9 Berenik11 Berenik5a Berenik4 Berenik1 Berenik2 Berenik3 Right after seeing Berenik on the runway at NYFW, I knew I had to have some of their pieces for my own. Translating the runway into reality can sometimes be tricky, but when I saw designer Veronika Brusa take her final bow wearing the line, the brand’s appeal hit me hard. She was impeccably chic and put together and had an effortless cool girl vibe about her. In fashion, there’s a tendency towards “more is more” but with Berenik each piece is carefully designed to feel contemporary, chic and strikingly selected.  Nothing is over-designed or overly styled which gives the wearer a perfectly curated look with beautiful detailing.

I love how this outfit can transition from day to night and is as functional as it is fashionable.  It was the perfect ensemble for a morning stroll downtown, popping into shops and stopping for an iced coffee.

Donna Karan A/W15

March 11, 2015

Today marks the end of Fashion Month and how better to celebrate it’s closing than with a review of Donna Karan, a designer whose work embodies the very place where it all began: the City of New York.

Long is the love affair between Donna Karan and New York City. Her A/W15 collection was influenced by the architectural landscape of the city skyline at night – dark colors were illuminated with shimmering metallic accents. Silhouettes were lean with clean, geometric lines. Some looks showed us her mastery of asymmetry, others gave a subtle nod to Asian influence with obi belts and floral brocades.
Karan’s ability to juxtapose masculine and feminine is practically unparalleled. Tuxedo jackets, pinstriped trousers and wing-collared shirts were in harmony with bustiers, sheer paneled skirts and organza evening gowns. This sartorial synchronization epitomizes the Donna Karan woman as strong and independent while also incredibly graceful.
I especially loved the asymmetrical folds in her bustier tops and dresses and the rich auburn leather jacket lined in a lush shearling. Each piece glimmered like a beacon guiding you towards an elegance within reach, completely achieving the balance between otherworldly and functional.
Bright lights, big city glamour.
Below are some of my favorite looks from her A/W15 collection. View the full collection here.

The Lob

I love my new hairstyle. Everything about it feels totally natural. I’m not reaching for hair that isn’t there anymore or freaking out every time I brush it. Even when my hairstylist was midway through cutting it, I knew it was the right fit and felt completely happy. While I’m still experimenting with how to style it and what products still work on my hair and what new ones I need to purchase, I’m enjoying the adventure.  It looks just as good wavy as it does straight and I’m so happy to say goodbye to my old school long hair essential – hot rollers.

A Hair Story: The Lob

March 5, 2015

My hair has pretty much been the same my entire adult life. Long and straight. I haven’t had bangs since the early 90’s and I’ve only ever dyed my hair once. It was an at home kit I bought at Target that turned my hair orange. Thankfully those orange highlights disappeared anytime I wore my hair in a ponytail.

But in recent months I’ve been contemplating a change. It all started when I tucked my hair into a turtleneck and decided it was cool. It’s not that I’m unhappy with my long hair. I love it. But it’s starting to feel boring. I can predict it’s every move and styling it isn’t really fun anymore. More than a decade of the same hair is grounds for a change, right?

So I’m going short. Not really short. Lob short. Will I regret chopping my long hair? Possibly. There’s a very powerful psychology attached to a woman’s hair. More than any other feature it seems to signify beauty and provide a sense of security. So does less hair mean less beauty? Less security? I have a feeling it’s actually going to give me a sense of freedom and power.

At the end of the day, it’s just hair. It will grow. And if I’m ever feeling a sense of longing for my old hair I’ll just look at this.

Are you thinking of changing your hairstyle? Have you already taken the plunge? Hair1 Hair9a Hair2 Hair4 Hair7a
