Style... in abundance

City2 City1 City3 City6 City11 City7 City4 City9 City8 I really enjoyed shooting this look for several reasons. It has a dash of Cher Horowitz, a little flight attendant and a smidge of futuristic robot all meshed together. Normally I hope to channel one essence in my ensemble, but three? 1 point.

Plus, the Barbara Bui oxfords I had been lusting after appeared before my eyes while out shopping one day at a fraction of the cost. 2 points.

Finally, my niece helped us out on this shoot which was awesome to share the experience and see a budding photographer at work. Infinity points.

Red It

Silvano2 Silvano3 Silvano1 Silvano4 Silvano6 This outfit makes me happy. It could totally skew edgy, but the topknot, red lipstick and sophisticated sunglasses make me feel giddy and excited for the end of a week.  Now, who’s ready for a drink?

Shaded

May 11, 2015

Silvano2 Silvano3 Silvano1 Silvano4 Silvano8 Silvano5 Silvano7 Silvano6 I am never without a pair of sunglasses. When you live in a perpetually sunny state, they are a wardrobe essential. While I love a basic black pair, it’s so much more fun to experiment with bold colors and patterns. This olive green pair from Silvano Apparel has wooden arms that are made from exotic woods indigenous to Asia and recycled skateboard wood. To think that Tony Hawk maybe used to skate on my sunglasses?  Too cool.

Year One

May 5, 2015

YearOne1
Today is an exciting day for me because it marks the 1 year anniversary of In Spades!

When I think about all that has happened in the past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, appreciation and excitement. When I first started In Spades, it existed in a virtual vacuum. I didn’t tell anyone about it. Looking back, perhaps this was because I was a little embarrassed. Fashion blogging was already extremely over saturated. Did I have anything different to throw into the mix? Would it be good? Would anyone even read it? Anytime you put yourself out there, there is a very large chance you’ll be met with crickets, or worse, total rejection. But on May 5th, 2014 I decided to just get over it and tell my friends and family that the journey, had in fact, begun.

And look where the journey has taken me. I’ve attended New York Fashion Week. Twice. I’ve seen Bill Cunningham in person. I’ve collaborated with one of my favorite local boutiques. I’ve been introduced to exciting new brands. I’ve interviewed up-and-coming and world-renowned designers. I’ve made new friends and connected with fellow bloggers worldwide.

So thank you to all for your support. Thank you for reading, commenting and liking my posts. Without your interaction, this would just be an online diary. Because of you, it’s a blog. A blog I’m very proud of and one I’m excited to grow.

A huge thank you also goes out to the man behind the camera. He is the other half of In Spades, the one who indulges my crazy, dramatic whims. Thank you, dear husband.

Here’s to Year One!

May the 4th

May 4, 2015

May1 May7 May3 May2 May8 May6 May4 May5 In our house, May the 4th is absolutely a recognized holiday.  Someday I secretly hope to live in the Star Wars universe and become a Jedi, but until then I’ll have to settle for the virtues of a mere mortal and express myself sartorially.  George, Disney, feel free to call anytime.  I’m not waiting by the phone or anything.
