An Unconventional Pregnancy Announcement

Maybe it’s the Aquarian in me, but I’ve never considered myself to be conventional.  I like different.  I cherish weird.  Thankfully I found a partner that not only supports these qualities but embodies them himself.  A perfect little quirky match made in the stars.

So when we became blessed with the news that in April 2018 we’d officially become parents, I knew we couldn’t share perhaps the biggest announcement of our lives in an average way.  It had to be unique.  Us.

So I donned an evening gown and stiletto boots.  The hubby threw on his best Yohji.  And we art directed a photoshoot.  In a laundromat.  Because, why not?  If there’s one thing we love, it’s stepping out of the box.  And this next chapter of our lives will be stepping outside of the box in ways we can’t yet fathom.

Here’s to the wild ride ahead of us.  He’s going to be a rad dad.  Me?  Well, all I can tell you is that I’m going to continue to bring you style inspiration the only way I know how.  As myself.  In my little corner of the internet.  While I grow a tiny human that I’m super excited to meet.

At some point the clothes will get bigger.  And while there might be a tiny shoe or two, In Spades will remain a women’s fashion blog.  I’ve already figured out my next style icon: Andre Leon Talley.  Expect lots of cloaking.

Let the adventure begin!

Special thanks to Felicia LaSala for capturing these images and to Cecelia for her chic eye

Blogger Movie Night

August 16, 2017

If you follow me on Instagram you know that I co-hosted a blogger movie night a couple of weeks ago with my friends Lisa and Sheree. The goal behind the event was to gather new and old friends for a night of networking and fun. In the blogging world it’s so easy to be friends with fellow bloggers from afar, but the time you actually get to spend bonding in person can be few and far between. What better way to support our fellow boss ladies than to bring everyone together for a movie night!

Lisa and I have been friends for years so you probably recognize her from past blog posts. An actress, writer and the blogger behind Pretty Little Shoppers, she was the brainchild for our movie night and the most gracious hostess. Sheree of Posh Classy Mom and I met over a year ago at a conference and she is the very definition of a woman who juggles it all while looking fabulous and supporting her fellow boss babes. We invited like-minded ladies and I was absolutely blown away by how smart, gracious and wonderful everyone was.

Of course the evening needed to be Instagram worthy, so we enlisted the help of some amazing sponsors to bring our ideas to life. Lemonade LA provided delicious salads, sandwiches, macaroons and their signature blood orange lemonade that we mixed with champagne to make Bellini’s. Lisa also baked gluten free desserts for all of the guests and let me tell you, they were amazing. I definitely ate one too many cookies.

Stella Rosa and Diama Rose provided the vino and bubbly and each person got to take home a mini bottle in their gift bags. BloomNation put us in touch with Playa Flowers who created all of the flower arrangements and donated mini succulents in gorgeous gold and white planters for each of our guests to take home.

No Blogger Movie Night would be complete without a candy bar and popcorn. If you’ve never tried LesserEvil popcorn you absolutely must. Totally organic and made with coconut oil, it’s so good and good for you. We also set up a candy bar filled with all of the classic go-to movie treats and SockerBit gummies. Let’s just say I was beyond excited that we all got to take individual SockerBit bags home with us too. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth?

In true blogger fashion we spent the majority of the evening talking shop, relating to each other’s experiences and then had fun taking photos and Polaroid’s in front of the photo booth. In the midst of all of our bonding we completely lost track of time and didn’t end up watching the movie! Thankfully The Devil Wears Prada is a classic we’ve all seen and I’m so glad we got to spend the time networking. I definitely walked away with a new group of friends am I’m so excited to co-host another event with Lisa and Sheree. Gotta keep this positivity going! Until next time!

Galentine’s at Laduree

February 14, 2017

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I just returned from New York Fashion Week and am still running high on adrenaline, thankful for the many exciting opportunities blogging has afforded me.  One of the greatest perks about writing a fashion blog is meeting like-minded individuals.  A couple of years ago the world of blogging introduced me to Lisa of Pretty Little Shoppers, and we’ve been great friends ever since.  Not only does Lisa have incredible style (check out her Instagram!), but she is one of those truly multi-talented people.  She also acts, writes and produces, and just wrapped a pilot for a series she developed based on the world of fashion blogging.  It’s hilarious and I know we’re all going to be seeing a lot more of Lisa in the year to come.

A fellow fashion lover and foodie, Lisa and I have shared many adventures over tea and delicious meals, so when Laduree opened in LA, we knew we had to give it a try.

Modeled after the famous bakery in Paris, we met for an afternoon of appetizers, tea and of course, their delicious desserts.

We exchanged Valentine’s Day cards and Lisa gave me the most amazing Jo Malone candle – it smells divine! After catching up for a bit over a cheese plate and chocolate and vanilla infused tea, we moved on to the best part – dessert!

We knew we had to try their signature macaroons, and had a blast deciding on flavors.  Laduree creates limited edition flavors and for Valentine’s Day they made a champagne macaroon called the Jimmy Choo.  Baby pink and adorned with silver sparkles, it tasted as good as it looked and was hands down our favorite.

We honestly could have spent the entire afternoon at Laduree because their decor is the stuff of dreams. Pretty pastels, latticework details, and furniture fit for Alice’s tea party, I think we’ll make it a Valentine’s Day tradition.

If you’re in LA, you must check out Laduree.  With locations in Beverly Hills and The Grove, it’s perfect for brunch with the girls!

Off-the-Shoulder

June 13, 2016

Tibi5
Tibi7 Tibi2 Tibi1 Tibi6 Tibi3 Tibi8 Tibi4a This season off-the-shoulder tops and dresses have been everywhere and rightly so. (I’m obsessing over this top). The peekaboo look is perfect for warm spring and summer days and shows the right amount of skin without being overt.  I picked up this Tibi dress during their sample sale and love it’s sophisticated Juliet look. A great choice for wedding season, it’s so comfortable I seriously feel like I’m wearing silk pajamas.

Tibi silk off-the-shoulder dress (sold out in pink, but on sale in black, green and polka dot; shorter version in plum and sand dollar) // Prada sandals (similar version on sale here) //
Banana Republic bracelet // J. Crew necklace sold out (similar here and here)
