Circle Bags for Spring

I’ve been wanting a circle bag for ages, so when I laid eyes on this pretty white number from Vasic New York, I knew it would be my spring handbag go-to.

The white leather (it also comes in black) combined with the straw/raffia effect gives it a perfect casual yet elegant vibe.  I’ve written before about my love for Vasic New York and if you’ve yet to check out the line, put it on your must list.  Now carried at major retailers like Bloomingdale’s and Shopbop, Vasic is not to be missed.  The quality of their bags is topnotch, their designs fashion-forward, and their pricepoints incredibly reasonable.

You may remember my green suede number from last fall that also made an appearance at NYFW in February.

What I love about circle bags for spring is the feminine shape.  They remind me of the 1950’s when women carried hat boxes and train cases.  Dainty and eye-catching, they evoke the soft vibes I often associate with spring.

This bag comes with a detachable crossbody strap (something I rely on more and more with handbags) making it the perfect bag for travel and running errands.  Not many circle bags out there come with a hands-free option, so this feature is key (especially with a baby on the way).

With lighter bags I like to pair pieces that really make them pop, so instead of going traditional spring florals or pastels, I chose this vibrant cobalt sweaterdress.  Not only is it a pregnancy wardrobe dream, but the bold color really highlights the beautiful white leather.

My earrings were a major sale score as part of Banana Republic’s designer collaboration, and while they’re still available, I found a similar pair under $40.

What do you think of circle bags for spring?  Let me know your dream list in the comments!

Not Just Another Maternity Line

Well, we’re in the home stretch.  Only 5 more weeks of pregnancy to go before I reach full-term.  I’ve been incredibly lucky to feel great throughout this pregnancy.  One aspect of feeling great is looking great, and finding comfortable clothes that fit is essential with a growing bump.

I’ve talked before about my aversion to maternity clothes and was thrilled when Matron Saint reached out to me.  Their philosophy is to encourage women to rock their personal style, baby bump or not.  Being pregnant doesn’t mean sacrificing what you love to wear or conforming to a societal “mom uniform”.  Their clothes are designed to be worn post-partum too, allowing you to mix and match accessories and layers as your body changes.

This long sleeved dress is so comfy I could sleep in it.  I love the deep “V” detail in the back and the soft grey is perfect for transitioning from winter to spring.

To play up the arrival of spring, I paired it with white accessories.  These sunglasses come in three colors and are only $14!

I first acquired these white booties prior to NYFW September 2017, and they haven’t let me down since.  There are so many fabulous white boot options out there right now – I’m loving the slouchy look, the knife boot silhouette and the kitten heel (all linked below).

As I near closer and closer to my due date, I’ll be sharing more pregnancy style tips and thoughts.  If there’s anything specific you want to hear about, let me know in the comments!

Stay tuned for a post on my new diaper bag.  If you follow me on Instagram, you know it’s a stunner!

Red Hot Booties

Shoes of Prey customized booties (c/o) // Madewell jeans (non-maternity here)
J. Crew tee (sold out, similar here) // Zara jacket (sold out, similar here)
Pianegonda ring // Quay sunglasses

Since winter started, I’ve been wanting a pair of red ankle boots.  With the amount of black I wear, I knew they’d be the chic pop my wardrobe needed.  Little did I know I wouldn’t have to spend weeks searching for the perfect pair, but that I could design my own via Shoes of Prey.

Shoes of Prey is a bespoke fashion company that allows you to customize your dream shoes without the luxury pricetag.  When I first visited their site I was blown away by my choices.  Flats, pumps, sandals, sneakers, boots – you name it, they have it.

I love to be original, so the chance to play shoe designer was a dream come true.

You begin by using their 3D editor to pick your style, followed by fabric choice, color and heel style.  I chose the Kiel boot and was set on their fiery red Nappa leather, but they also offer fabric, suede and vegan options too.

To add to their already fabulous DNA, I pushed the envelope with a crocodile effect leather stripe down the side and stark white zippers to give them a racing feel.  I could have gone with a higher heel height for the utmost drama, but stuck with the 2.8 inch stiletto for this growing baby.

The best part?  You can customize an inscription on your shoes.  Mine say In Spades on the inner sole, but I almost went with “Heels on Fire” because it fits so perfectly with these booties.

Shoes of Prey is offering a free custom inscription ($49 value) to all my readers with code INSPADESBLOG!

Use it for a fun personal touch to mark your first endeavor as a shoe designer (how perfect would it be for bridal parties and other milestone celebrations?).

On Wednesday I’m set to depart for NYFW and love that I’ll be bringing a pair of boots that are totally unique to me.  No awkward wardrobe dupes here.  Check out Shoes of Prey to design your own dream shoes that are one of kind.  Dare to be bold.

Distressed, Slouchy Sweater

January 22, 2018

Christian Louboutin heels ($56 version here)
Love Tatum Chloe choker and Kali wrap necklace // Thatch Aquarius pendant

I love a good oversized silhouette.  When I saw this distressed, slouchy sweater on sale at Neiman’s I immediately thought it would be the perfect pregnancy piece.  As soon as I slipped on the soft cashmere, I was hooked.  Now that it’s marked down to $116 (for cashmere!) it’s truly a steal.  It also comes in black, and I’ve linked a great alternative option under $29 below.

I went up a size (wearing a small) because I wanted to accentuate the pillowing sleeves.  You can wear them ruched up (add hair ties to your forearms to keep the sleeves from slipping) or down a la Olsen twins, like I did.

The funny part about pregnancy at this stage is that depending on what I wear, I can show my bump or keep it rather mysterious.  With this oversized look, I’m clearly more concealed, but here’s a great illustration of what form-fitting silhouettes look like on me right now.

My normal style definitely falls more into the oversized, drapey Olsen twins bucket and I can’t wait to see how this evolves with my growing belly.  Andre Leon Talley will be proud, I’m sure.

To keep this look from going too simple, I layered on some of my favorite gold pieces by local jewelry makers Love Tatum and Thatch.  I’m happy to call the ladies that run these amazing companies friends, and highly encourage you to check out their work.  When it comes to everyday jewelry, they are my go-to’s for sleek sophistication.

An Updated Take on Pajama Dressing

January 15, 2018

Exactly a year ago I posted a look featuring pajamas.  It was perhaps my most controversial OOTD to date.  While shooting it, several people stopped to tell me how ridiculous I looked and call me names.  Was I taken aback?  Yeah.  How could my outfit be so important to others?  They weren’t wearing it.  What that experience reinforced for me is the power of personal style.  If something makes you feel good, it transcends more than just outward appearances.  And that outfit made me feel fabulous.  Others be damned.

So, wear what you want.  And wear it proud.

Since that post, pajama dressing has become quite the trend.  I love the relaxed, yet chic vibe it gives and for anyone willing to try it, it’s probably the most comfortable trend you can adopt.  Who wouldn’t want to walk around in their pajamas all day?

As I move further into my pregnancy, the new style icon I adopted becomes more and more prominent.  Flowing, drapey fabrics and anything tunic-like has my name on it.

When this silk pajama top went on sale, I immediately snatched it up.  Extremely comfortable with a forgiving silhouette, it was dying to be paired with another comfy counterpart – the most robe-like coat I could find.  Thus, pajama dressing 2.0 was born.

No matter how comfortable I dress, you can never totally take the glam out of me, so of course this OOTD needed killer shoes.  Prada totally killed it with their F/W17 collection – I might need an intervention – and when these babies went on sale, they become another holiday sale season conquest.  If you love the look but not the price tag, check out these amazing $39 dupes.

What do you think of the pajama trend?  Let me know in the comments if you’ve given it a try!
