SLVRLAKE Jeans

September 24, 2020

SLVRLAKE denimJeans // Blazer (similar) // Sweater (similar) // Sneakers // Sunglasses

If this week’s post were a Britney Spears song it’d be Oops, I Did it Again.

What can I say?  I love denim.

SLVRLAKE is a brand I’ve been admiring from a far for quite some time.  Based in and designed around the LA lifestyle, their jeans are a balance of classic meets modern.

No frills.  No overt logos.  Just plain and simple damn good jeans.  Think premium vintage denim without the literal ‘vintage’.

They offer 6 signature styles, plus seasonal styles.

I recently scored these on sale and wanted to share my thoughts on them plus the other styles I’ve tried on.

Lou Lou

The Lou Lou is the perfect everyday jean.  They’re the most versatile and super comfortable (thank you 8% stretch).  With a cropped length and a 10.5 inch mid rise, the styling options are endless.

I’m wearing a size 26 and would say they run TTS.  If you are between sizes, size up.

London

The London is SLVRLAKE’s most popular jean.  A 12 inch high rise and 16 inch leg opening make them a true straight leg jean and flattering on all body types (no wonder they’re the most popular).  They come in both cropped and regular lengths AND 100% cotton and stretch/cotton styles.

I actually bought this style 2 years ago and ultimately returned them because they were just a lot of jean.  If you are 5’7 or taller, you can get away with the regular length.  I found them to be too long on me.  I also ordered a 100% cotton pair and with such a high rise, it just wasn’t my fave.  I prefer the stretch combo fabric with a 12 inch rise.

If you go with 100% cotton, size up.  The stretch/cotton styles run TTS.

Grace

The Grace is SLVRLAKE’s wide leg jean.  They come in regular and cropped lengths.  Most of their washes are 100% cotton, but they do offer some styles in stretch/cotton.  12 inch rise.

If you are pear-shaped or curvy, I highly recommend giving these jeans a try.  They also look great with tons of different shoes – boots, sneakers, sandals.  I wish wide leg jeans got more love!

If you are between sizes, size up.  Otherwise TTS.

The other 3 signature styles are:

Virginia Slim – 11 inch rise; true straight leg

Beatnik – 12.5 inch rise; super high rise skinny jeans

Savior – 12 inch rise; cargo pocket jean

I’m loving this no frills, high quality label.  Can’t wait to collect more!

Sweater Weather

September 14, 2020

Barrel Leg JeansSweater (similar) // Jeans // Bag // Sunglasses // Heels (similar)

Ah, sweater weather.  My fave.

One of my favorite cashmere brands just dropped their fall collection and it’s GOOD.

Remember the Khaite cardigan + bralette combo that broke the internet?  Well, Naadam made their cashmere version for 90% less.

For fall, I like to have a few hero sweaters.  Here are the sweaters I believe are a must for well-rounded wardrobe.

Cropped Sweaters

High waisted jeans are so much the norm it’s actually really difficult to find anything but a high waist anymore.  I also love paper bag waist pants and midi skirts for fall.  Both of these looks amazing with a cropped sweater.

Cardigans

They have a collegiate feel and I’m here for it.  The best part about them is the fact that they can be layered and worn buttoned or unbuttoned. Cardigans are workhorses of the sweater world.

Color

I love a good neutral color palette, but I definitely think one sweater in a pop color is closet staple.  I’m fawning over these purple ones!

Moussy Vintage Jeans

August 17, 2020

Moussy Vintage jeansTee // Jeans // Sunglasses // Bag // Sneakers

By now you know that when it comes to denim, I leave no stone unturned.  I mentioned needing to update my Top 5 Denim post (one of the first blog posts I ever wrote for In Spades!), but before I do, I wanted to dedicate a post to Moussy Vintage.

This is a brand I’ve been stalking for years but never pulled the trigger until recently.

The Details

Moussy Vintage is premium Japanese denim.  If you’re not aware, there are two parties that can claim winner when it comes to the history and expert, artisanal craft of creating denim.  Levi Strauss.  And the Japanese.

If you’re a diehard denim lover, I highly recommend at least trying this brand on.  They are like the rarest, coolest vintage Levi’s straight out of the gate.  Their washes are unparalleled.  Literally EVERY SINGLE WASH is gorgeous – no fake looking or mediocre washes here.

This Tokyo-based label was pretty hard to find until about 5 years ago.  They are now carried at major retailers and have a brick and mortar store in Soho.

The tough part about these jeans are 1) they’re expensive (but sales do exist!) and 2) they create dozens of styles and it’s really difficult to know how they’ll fit unless you try them on.

Sizing

A Moussy Vintage expert will tell you to go with the smallest size you can because the majority of their styles are 100% cotton and are made to mold to your body.

My take?  I agree, but if you prefer a more comfort fit, size up one size.  I am wearing a size 26 (normally a 25 or 26 in jeans).

My Uniform

The more time that passes in the pandemic, the more I realize my appreciation for jeans.  Okay, I just read that sentence back to myself and laughed.  I know I’m denim obsessed.  But if you told me I had to narrow my closet down to 10 pieces, jeans would fill at least 2 of those slots.

A lot of people ask me what items are truly worth investing in.  Denim is absolutely at the top of my list.  Jeans get worn A TON.  They have the ability to make you look amazing or just okay.  They’re a workhorse item and strike the balance between fashion and function more than any other item in your closet.

So if you’re looking for a pair of superior quality jeans that only get better over time, check out Moussy Vintage.

Have you tried Moussy Vintage jeans?  What are your favorite denim brands?

Nautical Vibes

August 10, 2020

Nautical Look Nautical LookTop (similar here) // Jeans // Shoes (similar here) // Sunglasses (similar here)

I love a nautical inspired look.  Especially in summer.  I will never forget the scene from Clueless when Dione tells Cher all of her bridesmaids will wear sailor outfits with sailor hats.  Teehee!

My top is from Tibi and although it’s old, I break it out every spring and summer.  The shirred sleeves are so fun.  Tibi tends to revisit this style season after season, which I adore.

These jeans remind me of vintage Japanese denim, so of course I had to have them.

Last week I had a random shower thought when it comes to denim.  Go with me on this.

If jeans are 100% cotton, they need a button fly.  It just solidifies that vintage, lived-in look.  But if jeans have any type of stretch in them, they need a zipper fly.  So many denim brands are opting to do all button fly’s nowadays and the reality is that it adds a lot of extra bulk.  If your jeans have stretch in them, then you are probably wearing them pretty snug.  And who wants extra bulk in skinny jeans?  Not me.

After trying on a few pairs of mid-raise stretchy jeans (and none of them working out), I’ve realized that a zipper fly is the way to go.  I found these, and think they fit the bill perfectly.

Chic Loungewear You Can Leave the House In

August 3, 2020

Anine Bing sweatshirtSweatshirt // Joggers (similar here) // Sneakers // Sunglasses (similar here)

I wonder.  Once the pandemic is over, do you think people will look at their loungewear collection and blanche?  Or can you never have enough loungewear?

Jeans and heels used to be THE uniform.  I wonder if sweats and sneakers are now the name of the game.

If you tuned into my Fashion Friday, I talked about the only brands reporting profits year-over-year.  Unsurprisingly, they were all loungewear/athletic wear brands.  Lululemon, Under Armour, Adidas and Nike are up 50% since last year.  They’re not just surviving.  They’re thriving.

As a mom and someone who works from home, loungewear is actually quite important to me.  But I have to feel like I can step out of the house and look put together and not like I’m making a coffee run in my pajamas.

I’ve written about 3 of my favorite loungewear brands before, and today I wanted to expound on that.

While Anine Bing is not technically a loungewear brand, her graphic tees and classic, elevated pieces make for a total wardrobe package.  Out of all the sweatshirts I own, this is by far the one I wear the most.  The color is versatile, it’s super chic and so comfortable.  I really want to get this graphic tee, but sadly it’s sold out in my size.

While my joggers are sold out, I’ve linked some other similar styles below.

If you’ve never perused the brand before, I highly encourage you to check out her pieces.  She’s an influencer/model turned designers and one of the VERY few who can claim being legit.  She’s been designing her line for years and her aim is to make elevated wardrobe basics that can be easily interchanged.  Like a capsule wardrobe on steroids.

I will happily lounge in her wears.
